Mustang Band Awards Night, Memorial Day Parade, Senior Exams and more in this week’s MMN!

THANK YOU to all of the family, friends and LRHS Mustang Band members who made our 2012-13 May Concert series a huge success!  All 3 concerts were well-attended and the band kids certainly rose to the occasion!  There were great performances from our 3 concert bands, 2 Jazz Bands, Percussionists, Soloists, Color Guard members and Special Guest Performers!  The Arts are alive at The Ranch!


* May 23^rd  –  Mustang Awards Night and Band Banquet 
The 2012-13 band season culminates this Thursday with our annual Band Dinner and Awards Presentation.  Dinner is served at 5:30pm in the LRHS Cafeteria – the Awards Presentation kicks off at 7pm in the auditorium.  The event is FREE for seniors and for anyone wishing to only attend the Awards portion.  We will only accept diner reservations until Tuesday morning…….There are appx. 100 diners already confirmed so get your forms and $10.00 dinner fee in! There is a tasty Italian menu from Monty’s planned – don’t miss out!


* May 26^th  –  Memorial Day Parade on Main Street
The Mustang Marching Band is participating in Lakewood Ranch’s premier Parade Event, the 2013 Memorial Day Parade. Band Members will MEET in the parking lot on South side of Main street (next to Michael Saunders Realty bldg.) at 5pm.  The Parade begins at 6pm and dismissal will take place a short time later at 6:30pm in the same spot where we meet.  The uniform for this parade is BLACK COMPETITION SHIRTS, (guard wear “bling” shirts) KHAKI SHORTS and SUNGLASSES.  Please wear comfortable tennis shoes – Guard will wear white Keds.  We will play The Horse on the Parade route along with several cadences.  This is major exposure in our community – We MUST display Maturity and Class at this event.  It will be the only time many of our neighbors get to see the Marching Mustangs this year so let’s show them how Amazing this band is!

This week will be the third installment of the concert series.  Our Jazz Bands will provide entertainment during this FREE concert, along with special guests The Gene Witt Elementary School Orff Percussion ensemble! Join us as we do our part to help the healing process at Witt – Young Lexi was a member of the “Orff-echstra” and Director Julie Hebert was affected deeply by her loss. We are dedicating a piece to Lexi’s memory and the continued success of Mrs. Hebert and the Witt Kids!

Mini Camp #1
was a huge success!  The spirit of FUN, FAMILY and FOCUS made for great times and really set us up for success.  Let’s keep the good vibes going at Mini Camp #2, Saturday June 8^th!

The Nolan MS Band Program will have their concert this Wednesday, May 15^th @ 7pm.  Student Volunteers are needed. 4 Service hours will be awarded to helpers – report time is 6:15. Wear any nice LR tee shirt and jeans/shorts.

SENIORS – Senior Wills Sheets are due Monday, May 13^th, Videos will be filmed Tuesday May 14^th during 5^th period, or an alternative time if you have the AP Gov exam.  See Mr. Lambert about your re-scheduled filming time.

Just a reminder that we will be having our May Booster Meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Band Room. If you have not yet turned in your completed, notarized Band Packet for the 2013-14 season, tonight is your chance. We will be accepting packets at 7:00 p.m. with payment in full, or including deposit and payment for May (if using installments). We will NOT have a notary present so all forms need to be notarized prior to arrival.

There are lots of things going on for our Band Kids!  The first of 3 straight weeks of concerts kicks off Thursday Night at 7pm with our Wind Ensemble!  This will be the last performance for many of our Senior Mustangs, so bring your camera!  Let’s pack the auditorium and give these great musicians the kind of send-off they deserve!

The fine folks at the World-Class DCI finalist Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle corps are hosting their 3^rd annual DCI Live Learning Event in conjunction with the Bands of Lakewood Ranch HS.  For the reasonable enrollment fee of 35.00 you will have the wonderful experience of being a corps member for a day!  You will participate in music and visual rehearsals, learn great warmups and music and then perform with the corps during their Friends and Family Bar-B-Q under the lights in LRHS stadium!  You will also receive a commemorative Crusaders Tee-Shirt, Lunch and snack, and a 15% off discount coupon for Boston Crusaders merchandise. as part of your camp package!

Busy Times in Mustang Bandland, Heritage Parade Trip Cancelled, Drum Line/Color Guard Tryouts, recruiting, FCAT week 2, and more in this week’s MMN!

There are lots of things going on for our Band Kids!  The Color Guard had another successful skills camp this weekend (where they participated with the World-Class Boston Crusaders colorguard), our seniors are auditioning for scholarships, and our recruiting drive continues:

The 2013 DeSoto Heritage Parade Trip has been CANCELLED.
We will NOT report to the band room this Saturday, April 27.

The MMB Drum Line will perform Sunday Morning April 28^th @ the grand opening of the new TJ Maxx megastore in Ellenton Mall.
TJ Maxx is coming on board as a Business Partner to our program!
Please come out to the event and enjoy the festivities and great deals!  Parents are responsible for transportation of their students.
1.  Percussionists will take their Uniforms/Instruments home with them Friday afternoon.
2.  Call time in the TJ Maxx parking lot will be 7:30am.
3.  The kids will perform from 7:45am-8:15am.
4.  Drum Line students will be dismissed at 8:30am.
5.  Uniforms and Instruments will be returned Monday Morning, April 29.

FCAT week, Color Guard Skills Camp, Boston Crusaders Guard Camp and more in this week’s MMN!

Thanks to LRBBA members and our Mustang Band members for helping with our 2013 membership recruiting drive.  Our trips to the middle schools, recruiting posters, and YOUR word of mouth led to a strong turnout at Sign-Up Night and to many inquiries on the phone, web and in person.  The Buzz is going around that people want to be involved with what YOU have going on!  The 2013-14 Band year is already shaping up to be a Great one!
Stay tuned for details about the proposed Competition Trip to Lassiter HS in Atlanta GA: the tentative date is October 12th, 2013.  It will be a 2 day, one night trip to compete in a show similar to a FMBC show (there are prelims and finals that day).  The cost (as you saw on the voting portion of the application is estimated to be 225.00 for each student.  Feel free to email me if you have any questions at LambertR@ manateeschools.net!

* Our Advanced Jazz Band had a wonderful experience at the Patel Conservatory Jazz  Festival this past Saturday, April 13^th.  They participated in clinics and sectional workshops with Famous professional Jazz musicians, headlined a fun concert on the RiverWalk in beautiful downtown Tampa, and then attended an amazing performance by the critically acclaimed Monterey Jazz Band on Tour in the Straz Center!  They represented The Ranch w/class and style and played great during the concert!

Our last FREE Color Guard Skills camp of 2013 will take place Saturday April 20^th in the Lakewood Ranch Band Room.  It corresponds with the Boston Crusaders Color Guard camp that is also taking place on our campus this weekend.   Our guard girls will once again have a rehearsal block with the World-Class Crusaders guard so that they can get a taste of the highest level of our activity.  Don’t miss this opportunity!  Tell a friend, bring a friend, and Parents, TELL your friends to send their daughters!  Last year was our largest guard ever – I want to double it this year!  WE CAN DO IT!

MARCHING BAND SIGNUP WEEK!  Jazz 1 at the Straz Center in this week’s MMN!!……

Short and Simple…..Marching Band 2013 begins this Thursday Night, April 11^th!  Our annual sign-up night will take place at 7pm in the Lakewood Ranch Band Room.  This will be the first step towards another exciting Bands of Lakewood Ranch year!  Be there early and bring a friend!

A special thanks is in order for the members of the 2012 M.M.B.!  Our Middle School mini-tour was a huge success Thursday!  Thanks for sharing the Mustang Spirit with your performances and heartfelt testimonials.  Those kids will never forget you!

Jazz 1 @ the Straz
Our Advanced jazz band will take to the road once again and represent our music program at the Patel Conservatory Jazz  Festival this Saturday, April 13^th.  They will participate in clinics and sectional workshops with Famous professional Jazz musicians, headline the Jazz Jamm concert on the River in beautiful downtown Tampa, and then get treated to an amazing performance by the Monterey Jazz Band in the Straz Center!  This wonderful honor is a great reward for the hard work put in by our young jazzers!

Family/friends may attend free of charge. The $8.00 participation fee is due this week!

UPDATE:
Congratulations to the Advanced Jazz Band and the rest of our students who participated in the 2013 FBA STATE MPA Festival!  Jazz 1 Brought home their 2^nd State Superior rating in the last 3 years, and many LRHS Band Students earned Superior Solo and Ensemble medals.  There were even 3 Superior w/Distinction medals given to students that performed their solos from memory!

Believe it or not, Marching Band sign-up follows shortly on Thursday, April 11^th!  Let’s set a new First-night signup record for our competitive band!

NEWS FLASH:
Due to a moratorium on Middle School field trips (at least until after the FCAT and EOCs end), I will take student MARCHING BAND and WIND ENSEMBLE volunteers (band members) with me to Nolan, Haile and Braden River MS this week (Thursday, April 4^th).  That will replace the scheduled in-school concert.  I need kids that are interested in sharing anecdotal information with the rising 9^th graders – it means a great deal to a young person to hear from their peers!  We will discuss the trip at length tomorrow.  It is not mandatory but we do need a strong representation to entice the 8^th graders to join the fold!
Field Trip and Parent Transportation Consent forms will need to be completed for kids travelling to these events.  I will send them home Tuesday.

Practice Records and Playing Tests, State Jazz and S/E trip, End of the Quarter – Short Good Friday Week and more in this week’s MMN!!……

Thanks to the members of LRBBA and their friends and family who manned our concession stand for the Manatee County Schools District JROTC Championships!  It was an All-Day effort that will benefit ALL of the members of our band program!  If you are a parent of a band kid, GET INVOLVED!  We need YOU!

There is no school Friday (Good Friday) or next Monday (records day).  That means 2 consecutive short weeks of 4 days each!  Every minute of every rehearsal is critical as we prepare for our Spring concert series.  Come ready to learn and get better every day!  Third Quarter ends Thursday so please be sure and check with Mr. Lambert and/or Ms. Marine so that you KNOW that you have turned in and received credit for the many performances, assignments, playing tests and PRs that we have had since the quarter began.  Make sure that Band is an important part of a GREAT GPA!

We’re on the road again! The Advanced Jazz Band, Color Guard and many Solo/Ensemble participants will make the trip to Ocala, FL  Wednesday March 27^th to display their talents for the FBA State Festival.  They earned the honor with their Superior ratings at the District Level.  Fees and Permission slips are DUE MONDAY!.  It will be an all-day trip taken by coach bus – Chaperones are needed!  Please contact booster president Mrs. Chrissy Harshman if you can help.
